Character...

So far our apartment has been treating us well; A great view of the city, an added bedroom, big, windows, a quiet neighborhood. (It's actually silent around here as compared to living on Central Ave in downtown Great Falls!) But there are a few quirks that are definitely giving the place, shall we say. . . more character.

Our stove, for instance, is very cute. It's cute because it's small. And it is small because it was made that way by a company that likes making small appliances that can fit in small spaces like closets and Barbie houses. (You should check out their mini food-processors. They're perfect for blending baby carrots.)
When I first laid eyes on my stove, I was a little bummed that it was so small in stature. I had been spoiled with a regular size stove in our old place. But once I finished mourning over the loss of my old stove, I boiled some water, cooked a mini casserole, and rested in the fact that my adorable little stove functions fine. Except that one of the burners won't heat up.

Another singular characteristic that makes our apartment one of a kind is the walls. Before we moved in, we were told that they had re-done the walls. Once we walked in, we realized they had only painted the walls. And the only the walls they had painted were in the kitchen! The whole rest of the house still has the same walls they have had for 40 years. And the kicker is, they're wood paneled! But luckily, it's not that cheap wood paneling that isn't even made of real wood and has those thick black lines that run down it. (No offense to anyone who remodeled or built a house in the 70's!!!) Really, I've found, that it's not that bad having wooden walls everywhere I look. And even though my decorating style is not very outdoorsy or rustic, I can appreciate the warm glow of my walls when the sun shines in my western window and turns my whole living room a beautiful cherry shade of red. I just keep wondering if the wood is much more flammable than drywall would be. Maybe that's why our apartment has a built in sprinkler system!
